An estimated 85% of Americans—women, men, and children—have experienced fungal Candida yeast overgrowth. But how do you know if that is your problem?

Candida Tests Help You Overcome Important Hurdles

Candida overgrowth sufferers face two major hurdles:

  1. Many medical doctors are not fully aware of the condition, and

  2. Fungal overgrowth is not a simple diagnosis.

Because many of the symptoms of Candida overgrowth can mimic symptoms of medically-treatable diseases, however, we always recommend you see your doctor first.

The diagnosis of candidiasis, or Candida fungal yeast overgrowth, is often what is called a "Diagnosis of Exclusion." After months or perhaps years of seeing doctors for debilitating symptoms, Candida overgrowth is the only explanation left!

Free Tests for Candida Overgrowth

Candida Support offers the following free tests because they are a great place to begin:

Candida Severity Test
Dr. Brian Martin worked for many years with Candida overgrowth patients (he has since left his practice to become involved in charity work). He developed The Candida Severity Test to help patients determine the level of severity of their Candida overgrowth. If you don't likely have Candida overgrowth, your calculation would look like the results at right:

Candida Yeast Survey
Dr. William Crook, M.D. wrote the groundbreaking book “The Yeast Connection” in 1986. Although some of his recommendations are outdated now (for instance, he recommended adherence to the sever “Candida Diet,” which is unnecessary with our products), he did a service to millions by recognizing that their symptoms were real and originated with fungal yeast overgrowth. He created this survey to help patients diagnose their likelihood of having Candida overgrowth.

Children's Candida Test
Dr. Crook  also authored this Children's Candida Test,  a test specially designed to evaluate Candida yeast overgrowth in children!

Home Saliva Test
The final test admittedly has no clinical trials to support its accuracy, mostly because it is so simple. The Candida Home Saliva Test, (also known as the Candida spit test) is a graphic indication of whether you have this condition.

Other Recommended Tests
There are two more tests that are available through a physician (we recommend that you try to find a holistic or Functional Medicine Doctor to help you through your recovery). One is a blood test and the other is a stool test.Holistic doctors use a blood test to measure IgG, IgA and IgM MONA (Multiple of Normal Activity) Units to Candida albicans to test for an overgrowth. The information below is from the lab that runs the blood test:

  • Abnormal IgM antibodies may indicate recent Candida overgrowth.

  • Significant increase in the level of IgA antibodies is suggestive of mucosal barrier overgrowth of Candida infection (could be digestive, respiratory, nasal/sinus, mouth, ears, vaginal or skin).

  • Increased levels of IgG may suggest a chronic, ongoing infection.

  • Significant increase in IgG and/or IgM is suggestive of a recent or recurring overgrowth of Candida.

  • An increased level of IgG, IgM antibodies and/or Candida Immune Complex is believed to be indicative of systemic Candidiasis.

Your doctor can also order a test called a “comprehensive digestive stool analysis” which can test for bacteria, parasites and yeasts, including fungal Candida.
